Generate, store and use your own electricity

Warm Homes Net Zero Ltd designs and delivers domestic solar PV and battery storage as one considered system for homes in Sunderland and across the North East. We assess the property first, explain what it can realistically do, and evidence the installation properly.

Solar and storage work better together

Use more of what you generate

A battery holds electricity your panels produce during the day so it can be used in the evening rather than exported.

    One integrated design

Panels, inverter, battery and monitoring are specified together, so the system is sized around how your household actually uses electricity.

    Evidenced installation

Work is documented from assessment through to handover, with commissioning records and system information provided.

    Honest assessment first

If a property is not suitable, or a smaller system is the sensible answer, we tell you before any commitment is made.

    Three routes, one honest assessment

Specifications and pricing are confirmed after the technical assessment, because they depend entirely on the property.

    Solar only

    Daytime electricity use

A solar PV array sized to your roof and consumption, without storage. Suits households that use most of their electricity during daylight hours.

    Battery retrofit

    Existing solar or tariff shifting

Battery storage added to an existing solar installation, or installed on its own to charge on a lower cost electricity tariff.

    Solar and battery questions answered

Is it better to install solar and battery storage at the same time?

Installing together means the array, inverter and storage are specified as one system, scaffolding and electrical work happen once, and the capacity is matched to expected generation from the start. Adding storage later is usually possible, but the existing inverter can limit the options.

How much of my electricity can a combined system cover?

It depends on your annual consumption, when you use electricity, the array size your roof allows and the useful battery capacity. We set out the assumptions behind any figure in the written proposal rather than quoting a headline percentage.

Do I still need a grid connection?

Yes. A domestic solar and battery system works alongside the grid rather than replacing it. The grid covers demand when generation and stored energy are not enough, and takes any exported surplus.

What happens on cloudy days and in winter?

Generation falls, so less energy is available to store and more is imported. A combined system reduces import across the year rather than eliminating it, and the seasonal difference is part of the assessment.

Should I install solar panels and a battery at the same time?

Installing together usually makes the design simpler, because the inverter and battery can be selected as a matched system and the electrical work is carried out once. A battery can still be added later to most existing solar installations.

How much will a solar and battery system save me?

Savings depend on your electricity consumption, tariff, roof orientation, shading and how much of your generation you use in the property. We do not publish generic savings figures. Any estimate we provide is based on your own assessment data.

What size system will I need?

System size is determined by usable roof area, orientation, shading, your annual electricity consumption and your daily usage pattern. This is confirmed during the technical assessment rather than quoted from a postcode.

    Do I need planning permission?

Most domestic roof mounted solar installations fall within permitted development, but there are exceptions including listed buildings, conservation areas and some flat roof or ground mounted arrangements. We confirm the position for your property during assessment.

Is funding available for solar or battery storage?

Some government funded programmes include renewable measures, but availability depends on scheme rules, property suitability and eligibility checks. We will tell you honestly whether a funded route looks possible and cannot guarantee funding.

    Who carries out the installation?

WHNZ carries out the survey and the design and introduces you to an MCS certified installer partner. That installer contracts with you directly, carries out the installation and issues your MCS certificate.

    A Managed Delivery Approach

Warm Homes Net Zero Ltd operates through a managed delivery network supporting retrofit, renewable energy and home energy improvements. Coordination, evidence and quality control stay with us from enquiry to handover.

    A structured customer journey

Every enquiry follows the same route, from first contact through to handover, so nothing depends on who happens to pick it up.

    Appropriately matched specialists

Work is allocated by measure, location, recorded competency, certification requirements and availability rather than convenience.

    Clear scope and quotation

Scope is set from what the property needs, and the quotation reflects that scope in writing before any work is booked.

    Managed coordination

Scheduling, access and occupant communication are coordinated centrally by Warm Homes Net Zero Ltd, not left to the installer.

    Evidence and documentation

Photographic and documentary evidence is captured against the property and the measure as the work progresses.

    Completion and handover

Completion is checked against the requirements set for the measure, then the documentation is compiled and handed over.

Find out what your property can actually support

Tell us about your property and electricity use, and we will confirm whether solar, battery storage or a combined system is the sensible route.
